The world has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, better known as Coronavirus, and now it has affected Indian National Hockey Team. This virus has affected the whole world on a large scale. The virus began in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and slowly started spreading all over the world. It was declared as a pandemic on 11th March 2020. Countries like Italy and France were heavily affected by this, but are now in a better state. Currently, India, United States, and Brazil have the most number of cases and cannot seem to handle the situation properly. Due to this, many sports competitions were put on hold. But, now many of the events have resumed and are taking place with proper precautions.

Recently, some players of the Indian National hockey team have also been tested COVID positive. Five players from the team have tested positive for the virus including the captain of the team, Manpreet Singh. Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, and goalkeeper Krishan B. Pathak are also on the list to be tested positive for the virus. The whole team was tested negative in the rapid test initially after the long break. But, soon after Manpreet Singh and Surender Kumar started showing symptoms, the whole team had to be tested again and that is when the others were found to be positive too. All of them are right now in quarantine in the Sports Authority of India’s Campus according to the Health Ministry Guidelines.

COVID-19 Hits Indian National Hockey Team
Manpreet Singh became the first Indian player to win the FIH Player of the Year in 2019.

The Indian National hockey team is one of the best hockey teams of all time. They won their first Olympic gold medal for India in 1928 and were unbeatable for a long period of time winning 6 gold medals in a row. They are also the first non-European teams of the International Hockey Federation. After their win in the 1980 Olympics, they lost their form and did not win any medal at least for the next 30 years. Finally, they won their first silver medal in the Champions trophy in 2011. We hope that all the players recover quickly and bring on their best form once again on the field and keep winning. We will keep giving you more such updates as soon as we get any information or details. Hence, stay tuned with us.
