Bayern Munich knocks out Chelsea to set their date for quarter-finals against Barcelona.

After a long break, the UEFA Champions League is back with more passion and excitement. UEFA put the European competition on halt in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition resumed on the 7th of August with the remaining matches of the Round of 16 where Manchester City and Lyon defeated Real Madrid and Juventus respectively to secure their places in the quarter-finals.

The second leg between Bayern Munich and Chelsea took place on 8th August 2020. Bayern Munich was already leading with a score of 3-0 after beating Chelsea FC in the first leg. Chelsea was already 3 goals down in their own home ground. They had to score at least 4 goals without conceding to win and proceed to the quarter-finals. But, Bayern Munich once again thrashed Frank Lampard’s Chelsea with a score of 4-1 in the second leg making an aggregate of 7-1 in Bayern’s favor.

Chelsea had also lost recently the FA Cup Finals against Arsenal FC. Coming to Bayern Munich, they have already won the Bundesliga title. Currently, they are in their best form. Moreover, the Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski is in his best form and proved himself against Chelsea once again, scoring twice. Not only that, he even came up to assist the other two goals. Ivan Perisic and Corentin Tolisso also added on to the score sheet to make it 4 for Bayern. Tammy Abraham was the only goal scorer for Chelsea, scoring one goal which came out of Manuel Neuer’s hands, deflecting it right to Abraham’s foot for a simple tap in. As a result, Bayern will now have to face FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals who won against Napoli with an aggregate of 4-2.

Now, the UEFA Champions League is halfway through. The teams that are qualified for the quarter-finals are Paris Saint Germain, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Lyon, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona. Fans are very excited to see their team play and hoping them to win, after all, it is the biggest European Championship. Everybody wants their team to win and take the trophy home.
