After the interesting quarter-finals, the teams that made it to the semi-finals were Paris Saint Germain, RB Leipzig, Olympique Lyonnais, and Bayern Munich. All these teams have performed very well this season, but it was time to get ready for the semi-finals. Reaching this stage of the competition is a big thing. Now, all the 4 teams have to give their best so that they can make it to the finals. Paris Saint Germain vs RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich vs Olympique Lyonnais were the semifinals match drawn before the quarterfinals. Semifinals 1 took place RB Leipzig and PSG on 18th August 2020. Both the teams had never faced each other before this. They were looking forward to reach the finals for the first time ever. The last time PSG made it to the semi-finals was in 1994-95 where they were knocked out at the hands of AC Milan.

It was matchday and both the teams had trained very hard for this day as both of them wished to proceed to the finals. PSG were not able to play their regular 11-man squad in the quarterfinals due to injuries and suspensions. But, now almost all the players were ready and at the peak of their health. Mbappe was in the starting 11 with Angel Di Maria who was suspended for the quarterfinals. Marco Verratti was still not fit enough to play in the starting 11 for PSG. Talking about RB Leipzig, they only had one chance in the team where Mukiele was dropped out as they wished to keep a three-man defense against PSG.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) vs RB Leipzig

The game began and it looked like RB Leipzig totally changed their gameplay for the semis. It was nothing like how they played against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals. PSG took full advantage of this and started attacking. In the 6th minute, Neymar missed an easy goal. It was a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. The ball hit the right post and a goal kick was given to them. Just one minute later, Mbappe took another shot on the goal and scored. But unfortunately, the goal was eventually disallowed as the ball had already hit Neymar’s hand when he blocked the clearance from the keeper.

In the 13th minute, PSG scored a great goal to take the lead. Di Maria played a beautiful ball into the box from the free-kick and Marquinhos headed the ball into the nets. This was Marquinhos’s second goal in the second game. RB Leipzig looked like they were under a lot of pressure. They were not able to attack like they usually do. PSG scored another goal only 3 minutes before the halftime. A big mistake from Gulacsi where he tried to make a pass into the midfield but was intercepted and the ball fell directly into Neymar’s leg who flicked the ball passing it to Di Maria who was all free right in front of the goal. Di Maria took a good first touch and scored in the second.

The score was 2-0 at halftime and now the fans were expecting great pressure from the German side to try and make a comeback but their game did not look any different in the second half too. The ball was mostly seen in PSG’s possession. PSG made it 3-0. One more Di Maria assists but this time Juan Bernat was at the end of it to head it into the goal. Then, the ref whistled full time and the score was 3-0. The match was totally one-sided as RB Leipzig did not seem to be in their best form.
