The first edition was played in 2018 where Portugal lifted the trophy. This year, the tournament is going to be interesting as there are many young talents who are getting chances to showcase their talents. Until now, we have got to see some great matches like Germany vs Spain, Ukraine vs Switzerland, and many more. The first day of the league was very interesting and exciting at the same time. Now, it was time for the next day fixtures. Some very interesting matches took place on Saturday but the match which had everyone’s attention was Portugal vs Croatia. Fans were eagerly waiting for this fixture and the day had finally arrived. Let us see what happened in this big clash.
It was time to see who takes the win in the battle between the defending champions Portugal and the 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia. Both sides are one of the top class teams in the world. Croatia did great in the 2018 World Cup which took place in Russia. They ended up qualifying for the finals for the first time, but unfortunately, they lost to France. The same year Portugal won the first edition of the UEFA Nations League. It was time for the match to start and each and every fan was excited to see it. Both the sides were missing their captains. Cristiano Ronaldo was not included in the squad but was there in the stadium to show his support for his nation. Croatia was missing many players including Luka Modric.

Croatia started the match by kicking off and unfortunately, it was one of the few times that the Croatian side had the ball in their possession. The first half performance by Croatia was just devastating. Portugal totally owned Croatia in the first half. Portugal had many attempts on the goal in the first half. They even hit the post thrice before the wonderful goal by Joao Cancelo. It was a beautiful hit from outside the box right into the left top corner of the net. Luckily, for Croatia, the score was just 1-0 in the first half, all thanks to the Croatian Goalkeeper Livakovic who made some great saves in the first half.
Even after such a bad performance from the Croatian side, they still had hope as the score was just 1-0. But, Croatia showed no improvement in the second half and ended up conceding another goal in the 58th minute that came from Diogo Jota. Croatia conceded again when Joao Felix scored his first goal for Portugal. Bruno Fernandes assisted the goal for him. The score was already 3-0 at the 90th minute and that is when Croatia’s Petkovic scored the first goal for Croatia. This goal did not light up any hope for Croatia as they were still two goals down which turned into three when Andre Silva scored the final goal of the match for Portugal making the score 4-1. This was one of the worst performances in the history of Croatia. Portugal totally deserved the win.
