The Premier League is finally here. It surely had some really interesting matches planned for us in the first matchday itself. We had Liverpool vs Leeds United, Crystal Palace vs Southampton, and of course Arsenal vs Fulham, the first match of the league this season. It is definitely going to be a really competitive season as all the teams have made some amazing signings in this transfer window to make their team stronger. Arsenal signed Willian from Chelsea to strengthen their attack whereas Fulham signed PSG goalkeeper Areola and Southampton’s defensive mid-fielder Harrison Reed to plug the holes in their defense. Even though Areola did not play the first match, he will surely make his debut soon in the upcoming matches. Let us see further in the article how the teams battled in their debut game of the new season of Premier League.
Match Summary: Arsenal vs Fulham
Fulham started the game as the referee blew his whistle. Arsenal were pressing their opponents from the start as they were looking forward to score an early goal. However, in the 2nd minute, Kamara was close to scoring as he got past the Arsenal keeper Leno but Leno played smart as he stopped the ball. Finally, in the 8th minute, Lacazette broke the deadlock as he scored the first goal for Arsenal. Xhaka attempted a shot on the goal but was blocked by the defender. Fortunately, the ball fell into Willian’s foot who tried to score but a deflection from the keeper took the ball to Lacazette. The striker converted it quickly to give the Gunners lead. Even then, they did not stop and kept pressing as they wanted more goals.
In the 25th minute, Lacazette won a freekick for his team just outside the box after Hector fouled him. Willian shot an amazing effort as the ball went to hit the post. Then, the game went on smoothly as both the teams were attacking but none of them was able to score. Consequently, the score at halftime was 1-0 in Arsenal’s favor. The second-half began and Arsenal seemed desperate to get more goals. Just 3 minutes into the game the Gunners won their first corner of the game. Lucky for them, their defender Gabriel converted it to give them a two-goal lead. After 5 minutes, the Cottagers also won a freekick outside the box. The Arsenal midfielder Bellerin received his first yellow card of the season for the foul. However, Fulham was not quite able to take advantage of that opportunity.
Soon enough in the 57th minute of the game, the Arsenal captain Aubameyang scored a curler from inside the box after dribbling past a defender. He shot the ball right into the top right corner beating the keeper with a beautiful curl. That was the last goal of the match as Arsenal defeated Fulham with a score of 3-0. It was an absolutely thrilling game, especially being the first game of this season. Arsenal surely look bucked up ever since the arrival of their new coach Mikel Arteta. He won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the team in the previous season. Now, he looks prepared to fight for the Premier League title as well this season. We hope that the Gunners keep playing like this so that they can move one step closer to their title after every game.
