Gosder Cherilus, a former NFL player, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for his behavior on a Delta Air Lines flight from Boston to Dublin. The 40-year-old Cherilus, a first-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2008, boarded the plane appearing drunk, according to police reports. He allegedly argued with the flight crew about his seat and continued to act erratically throughout the flight.

As the plane took off, Cherilus urinated on an elderly passenger, reportedly sparking outrage among other passengers. The situation escalated when he hit another passenger and took their seat before passing out. The flight crew was forced to intervene, ultimately leading to Cherilus’ arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and disturbing the flight crew.

The Boston Globe reported that Cherilus was arraigned in East Boston District Court, where Judge Debra DelVecchio expressed dismay at his actions. “It’s pretty egregious what you did, as alleged,” she told Cherilus. The former NFL player apologized to passengers and the flight crew on social media, claiming that he had taken a sleeping medication that he doesn’t normally use, which caused his erratic behavior.

Cherilus has faced no shortage of challenges in recent years, having previously played for the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His behavior on the flight has left many concerned, with some taking to social media to express shock and disappointment. Despite his claims of medication-induced intoxication, officials have made it clear that such behavior will not be tolerated in the skies.

In a statement, Delta Air Lines confirmed that there had been an “unruly customer” on the flight, apologizing to passengers for the delay in their travel. “Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end,” the airline stated. Cherilus’ legal woes have only just begun, as he faces serious consequences for his actions on the flight.
