The FBI has outlined a detailed case indicating their belief that a Florida man is linked to the disappearance of his estranged wife from her apartment in Spain. However, they haven’t disclosed their theory on what might have happened to her.

Court papers released Monday night reveal that agents suspect David Knezevich resembles the individual in a motorcycle helmet seen on security camera footage, who spray painted the lens outside Ana Knezevich’s Madrid apartment on February 2nd. The person left an hour later carrying a suitcase.

According to Spanish authorities, there’s security video of the 36-year-old business owner from Fort Lauderdale buying the same paint and duct tape used earlier that day. Investigators also spoke with a woman who claims Knezevich asked her to translate a text message sent to his wife’s friends after she vanished.

Knezevich’s lawyer, Ken Padowitz, did not respond to requests for comment on Tuesday.

Previously, he stated his client’s innocence, asserting Knezevich was in his homeland of Serbia on the day his 40-year-old wife went missing, 1,600 miles away. However, agents noted Knezevich rented a Peugeot in Belgrade four days before her disappearance.

Shortly after, a Spanish driver reported his plates were stolen. On the night Ana Knezevich disappeared, a plate reader on her Madrid street captured the stolen plate number, which Spanish police located.

Moreover, hours after her disappearance, a Peugeot with the stolen plates was recorded passing through a toll booth in suburban Madrid, its driver obscured behind tinted windows.

The rental agency informed investigators that when Knezevich returned the car five weeks later, the plates were swapped, and the windows were tinted. The vehicle had traveled nearly 4,800 miles during that time.
