Former Republican Congressman Ken Buck resigned from Congress because he was frustrated with a faction of the GOP that strongly supports former President Donald Trump. It looks like he will be replaced by Rep. Lauren Boebert, who is known for her outspoken support of Trump. Boebert won the Republican primary election on Tuesday night in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.
Boebert entered the race last year to avoid a tough re-election battle in her current seat, which she almost lost to a Democrat in 2022. Her strategy paid off, while Buck’s hopes for a more moderate Congress did not materialize in his former district.
Although other Republican candidates like Boebert lost their primaries in Colorado on Tuesday, she has a clear path to victory in a strongly Republican district that strongly supported Trump in 2020.
After her victory on Tuesday, Boebert wore gold shoes sold by Trump and a “Make America Great Again” hat with his signature. She defended her unwavering political stance, acknowledging that not everyone may agree with her approach in Washington but emphasizing that change requires assertiveness.
However, Boebert faced challenges in her path to victory in Tuesday’s primary. Her decision to switch districts was complicated by an embarrassing incident where she was recorded vaping and causing a disturbance with a date at a musical production of “Beetlejuice.” Additionally, fellow Republicans accused her of being a carpetbagger during her campaign.
