Wrestling’s Sami Zayn Takes Extended Break Amid Feud and Injury

Sami Zayn, the WWE wrestler who gained popularity in 2023 due to his intense feud with The Bloodline and alliance with Kevin Owens, is taking an indefinite break from wrestling. The decision comes on the heels of an injury angle on Monday Night Raw, where Zayn faced off against Drew McIntyre. During the match, Zayn suffered an “injury” spot, which allowed McIntyre to secure the victory. Following the match, Zayn was tended to by medical staff, but was then further attacked by McIntyre.

Reportedly, it was Sami Zayn himself who requested time off, and WWE has graciously granted his request. Initially, it was unclear when Zayn’s hiatus would officially begin, but a week later on Raw, WWE announced that Zayn was “injured” with a partially torn meniscus. However, they failed to provide a specific timeframe for his return to the ring.

Dave Meltzer, a prominent wrestling journalist, recently spoke on Wrestling Observer Radio, reiterating his initial report about Zayn’s decision to take time off. According to Meltzer, Zayn’s request for time off was not solely due to an injury, and he has neither confirmed the extent of the injury nor whether it is entirely genuine. Meltzer pointed out that wrestlers often deal with various injuries, and it’s possible that Zayn’s partially torn meniscus may be legitimate.

Meltzer stated, “I was told that he had asked for time off. The partially torn meniscus may be legit because guys are always hurt anyway. Last week, I was told Sami is gonna be off for a while. He asked for time off. Not over an injury or anything like that…I don’t know if he’s got a partially torn meniscus or not. He very possibly does, but he actually asked time off, regarding the injury situation.”

Sami Zayn has chosen to take a break from WWE, using a storyline injury angle to facilitate his absence. While there may be a legitimate partially torn meniscus, the primary reason for his hiatus was his request for time off, and the exact duration of his absence remains uncertain.

As fans, it’s understandable to feel a sense of disappointment given Zayn’s recent surge in popularity. Nevertheless, his decision to take a break may ultimately prove beneficial for his well-being and future performance in the ring. Only time will tell how long Zayn will be taking his hiatus, but for now, fans will have to bid farewell to the charismatic wrestler.
