Adobe Supercharges Premiere Pro and After Effects with AI Tools for Faster Editing and Global Reach

Adobe has introduced a range of new AI-powered tools across its popular video editing products, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Frame.io. A major feature in this release is Generative Extend, now generally available, which is driven by Adobe’s Firefly Video Model.

This tool allows video editors to effortlessly generate and extend video and audio clips in 4K and vertical formats. In addition, new features like Media Intelligence in Premiere Pro and Caption Translation in 27 languages are designed to streamline editing workflows and improve the efficiency of video content localization.

Generative Extend and AI Features Enhance Video Editing Efficiency and Global Content Localization

Generative Extend, first introduced in beta in October 2024, addresses a common editing challenge—filling video and audio gaps. Editors can now stretch clips, smooth transitions, or hold shots for longer durations with just a simple click and drag. This tool supports both standard and vertical video formats, which is crucial for social media content creators.

Outputs from Generative Extend include Content Credentials, ensuring transparency by providing a “nutrition label” for AI-generated media. Meanwhile, Media Intelligence in Premiere Pro uses AI to rapidly search through large amounts of footage, recognizing objects, camera angles, and metadata, eliminating the need for manual searches.

In addition to Generative Extend, Adobe has introduced new features to further improve Premiere Pro’s capabilities. AI-powered Caption Translation enables automatic captioning in 27 languages, reducing the time and effort required for manual translation.

The update also brings a new Color Management system, which automatically converts raw and log footage into HDR and SDR formats on import, providing more vibrant and consistent colors. These upgrades help video professionals work more efficiently and create high-quality content with less effort.

Adobe Enhances After Effects with New Features for Faster Editing, Compositing, and Collaboration

In After Effects, Adobe has introduced several new features to enhance editing and compositing. High-Performance Preview Playback ensures faster composition playback, even on less powerful computers. The software now also includes Expanded 3D Tools, such as Animated Environment Lights, allowing for more realistic compositing.

For improved accuracy in post-production, HDR Monitoring has been enhanced, ensuring better precision for high-dynamic-range content. Additionally, Frame.io, Adobe’s collaboration platform, has received upgrades, including expanded cloud storage, new document review tools, transcription generation (beta), watermarking, and enterprise-level security features like Access Groups.

Adobe’s creative tools have become integral to the filmmaking process, with many high-profile films using Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Frame.io in production. Award-winning films like “Anora,” which claimed five Academy Awards, and “Dune: Part Two” were created using Adobe’s suite of products.

These new features are expected to provide filmmakers and video professionals with the tools they need to enhance their storytelling capabilities and work more efficiently. Sean Baker, director and editor of “Anora,” praised Premiere Pro’s versatility and its ability to handle complex editing tasks with ease.

The new features in Premiere Pro and After Effects are available now, with Generative Extend offering complimentary generations for a limited time. Frame.io’s new transcription and Access Groups features are in beta, while all other upgrades are generally available. These AI-powered tools mark a significant leap forward in video production, empowering professionals to focus on creativity while streamlining time-consuming tasks.
