Charlotte Flair’s Quest for Authenticity in the WWE

Charlotte Flair’s reign as WWE champion has been met with criticism from fans, who feel that her frequent title victories have become too routine. Despite this, her in-ring talent is undeniable, and she recently cut a promo on RAW Is XXX with her father, Ric Flair, by her side. However, it appears that Flair’s promo was heavily micromanaged by WWE, with her expressing her discontent over the changes made to her original speech. According to Flair, the creative team deemed certain references to her numerous accolades, including her victories over notable female competitors such as Trish Stratus, Ronda Rousey, and Becky Lynch, too boastful for her new babyface character. Instead, she was instructed to simply say that she’s had the opportunity to face these women.

Flair noted that this kind of micromanaging can be stifling, especially when it comes to her wording and delivery. One of the phrases that Flair was specifically told not to use was her trademark “14-time world champion” phrase, which she feels is an important part of her identity. She lamented that there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance, and that WWE’s strict control over her promo script can make it difficult for her to convey her message effectively.

As Flair prepares to defend her Smackdown Women’s Championship against Sonya Deville, fans will be eagerly anticipating how her match will unfold. Despite her frustration with WWE’s creative team, Flair remains a strong and capable in-ring performer, and her authenticity is something that fans value. Her ability to convey her message and connect with the audience is paramount to her success, and fans will be watching closely to see how she navigates the delicate balance between confidence and arrogance.

WWE’s strict control over Flair’s promo script can stifle her creativity and limit her ability to express herself authentically. As a champion, Flair has a platform to share her story and connect with fans, and her frustration with WWE’s creative team is understandable. The outcome of her match against Deville will be closely watched, and fans will be hoping that Flair can find a way to convey her message and connect with the audience despite WWE’s restrictions.
