The Miami Dolphins have officially released running back Raheem Mostert after three seasons with the team. Alongside Mostert, the team also announced the release of cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe.
Mostert, who initially joined the Dolphins in 2022, had a standout 2023 season, rushing for a career-high 1,012 yards and leading the league with 21 total touchdowns. His performance earned him a Pro Bowl selection, cementing his role as one of the Dolphins’ most productive offensive players.
Mostert’s Departure and Future Prospects
Raheem Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, confirmed the news on social media, stating that his client will be playing elsewhere next season. Tessler expressed gratitude for Mostert’s time in Miami and suggested that the release allows the team to bring in younger talent while giving Mostert the opportunity to pursue a championship with another franchise.
At 32 years old, Mostert finished his Dolphins career with 2,181 rushing yards and 28 total touchdowns, proving to be a key contributor during his tenure.

Dolphins’ Running Back Depth Moving Forward
With Mostert’s departure, the Dolphins will rely on De’Von Achane and rookie Jaylen Wright to lead their backfield. Achane, who was the team’s primary running back last season, demonstrated his versatility by leading all NFL running backs with 78 catches and 592 receiving yards. The addition of Wright, a 2024 fourth-round draft pick, suggests that the team is looking to get younger at the position while maintaining offensive explosiveness.
In addition to Mostert, the Dolphins also released cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe. Fuller, who joined the team in 2024, started 11 games and contributed 50 tackles along with a fumble recovery. Smythe, a longtime member of the Dolphins, spent seven seasons with the franchise after being drafted in the fourth round in 2018.
Over his career in Miami, he recorded 132 receptions for 1,228 yards and three touchdowns. These moves indicate that the Dolphins are making significant roster changes as they prepare for the upcoming season.
