Wes Lee was originally slated to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the North American championship at tonight’s NXT Deadline premium live event in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
However, due to a back injury, Lee had to withdraw from the match. Dragon Lee was selected as his replacement, and Rey Mysterio, still using crutches, opted to accompany him.
During the match, commentary emphasized early on that Dominik was without his usual support, The Judgment Day.
This absence extended to Rhea Ripley, whom the crowd passionately called for with chants of “we want Mami” in the opening moments.
However, Ripley never appeared, and this absence proved costly for Dominik Mysterio.
Dragon Lee continued his impressive streak of delivering outstanding matches week after week. He took Mysterio to the limit and, without any outside interference, cleanly pinned Dom in the center of the ring.
While Lee is now making waves on SmackDown, his victory at NXT Deadline suggests he will remain a fixture in NXT for the foreseeable future.
