Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently spoke candidly about her three-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, at a forum in Colombia, showcasing her daughter’s growing personality. Meghan proudly revealed that Lilibet has “absolutely found her voice” and encouraged her daughter to express herself, drawing parallels between her own experiences of finding her voice as a woman. The proud mother recalled how she, too, struggled to utilize her voice and be heard, stating, “I know how it feels when you don’t utilise your voice when you need to be heard or have something to say.”

Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, joined Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez at the event, which celebrated the contributions of Afro-Colombian women, leaders, and entrepreneurs. Meghan delivered her opening remarks in Spanish, showcasing her language skills learned 20 years ago. She expressed her admiration for the culture and history of the community, stating, “The culture, the history—all of it was a dream — this trip was a dream. I can feel this community and this is the feeling that is the best thing right now.”

Meghan also drew inspiration from her mother, Doria Ragland, in finding her own voice, citing her strong women around her as sources of motivation. She emphasized the importance of empowering young girls and raising young boys to listen to girls, highlighting the crucial role men play in this process. Meghan praised her husband, Prince Harry, as an example of this, stating, “Ensuring that young girls feel that their voices are heard and young boys are raised to learn how to listen to girls as well. The role of men in this is crucial— and my husband is an example of this.”

As the couple attended the event, they also took part in a photo shoot and enjoyed live entertainment from a local youth organization in the Colombian city of Cali. Meghan enthusiastically tried “Viche,” a local liquor, during the celebration. Prince Harry, meanwhile, encouraged young people to make a positive impact in their communities, emphasizing that their actions will inspire and create change for hundreds or thousands of young people.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex concluded their four-day trip to Colombia, which saw them attend an Afro-Colombian music festival and mingle with the local community. Their visit marked the first official overseas royal visit without the request of the UK Government, as they no longer carry out official visits on behalf of the British monarchy since stepping down from their working royal duties in 2020.
