Vince McMahon, the former CEO of WWE, made headlines in June 2022 for all the wrong reasons when it was revealed that he secretly paid $3 million as part of a hush-money scandal. The allegations of improper behavior continued to pile up, with former WWE referee Rita Chatterton accusing him of sexual assault in 1992. McMahon eventually reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Chatterton. Furthermore, he was hit with a lawsuit by a spa manager.
Despite all the controversy surrounding him, Ric Flair still considers Vince McMahon his hero. In a recent interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, Flair spoke about WWE’s sale to Endeavor, and how he doesn’t see Vince taking orders from anyone. Flair stated, “I just can’t see Vince taking orders. That will be a strange one for me if someone tried to tell Vince what the hell to do. He’s my hero. I judge people by how they treat me and he has treated me like…I’ve never had anyone treat me with more respect in this business. He’s a great guy. I don’t care what he does. He’s my hero.”
Flair’s unwavering loyalty to McMahon is surprising, given the controversies that have surrounded him over the years. Many would expect Flair to be critical of McMahon’s actions, especially considering the allegations of improper behavior. However, Flair’s comments suggest that he is more concerned with how McMahon has treated him personally, rather than the company’s overall reputation.
It remains to be seen how WWE will move forward under new ownership, with Vince McMahon still holding a significant amount of power in the Creative department. Regardless, it seems clear that Ric Flair will continue to proudly support his hero, despite the controversies that have surrounded him.
