Former WWE ring announcer Tony Chimel has recently joined forces with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), taking on a new role backstage at the company’s live events and television tapings. Chimel, who spent nearly three decades with WWE, expressed his admiration for AEW, stating that it’s “a great place to work, and I love going there.” He credited the company with having “nice people” and a “good product,” adding that he helps out with AEW Dark and ROH television tapings in Orlando, which are taped once a month.
In comparison to his WWE experience, Chimel noted that the reduced schedule at AEW allows him to maintain a better work-life balance. He mentioned that in his former role, he was often on the road for 20-25 days a month, something he doesn’t have to worry about with AEW. This reduced schedule has enabled him to still enjoy the industry without being away from home for extended periods of time.
Chimel, who started his career with WWE as a ring technician before becoming an announcer in 1991, rose to prominence as the voice of WWE SmackDown. However, he was released by the company in 2020. With his new role at AEW, Chimel is looking to continue his long-standing career in the professional wrestling industry.
As Chimel settles into his new position, fans are likely to see him play a key supporting role behind the scenes at AEW events and television tapings. His transition to AEW marks a significant change in pace for the veteran announcer, who now finds himself working in a more relaxed and flexible environment. AEW’s reduced schedule, which allows him to work fewer days than he did in his WWE days, is undoubtedly a welcome adjustment for Chimel.
