Power outages spread across storm-battered Texas on Wednesday and may last until the weekend after heavy storms flooded Houston for the second time this month and caused damage in Dallas, resulting in the death of a teenager and injuries to others.
The teenager died on Tuesday at a construction site in Magnolia, northeast of Houston, when a home collapsed. Three people at a campground north of Houston were shocked by a fallen power line. At one point, over 1 million homes and businesses were without power.
Oncor, the electric utility serving Dallas, expects to restore power for most customers by Friday, but some areas may still experience outages through the weekend. By Wednesday night, power had been restored to more than 75% of affected customers statewide.
Houston, recently hit by another severe storm that killed eight people, faced flooding and damage once again. A 6-year-old boy and two others shocked by a downed power line near Houston were in critical condition, according to authorities.
In another incident during the storm in Spring, a couple rescued a driver whose truck had submerged in a trench. The driver suffered minor injuries from broken glass after being pulled out through the truck’s back window with the help of a sledgehammer.
