Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this week and will miss Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, coach Nick Sirianni announced Saturday.
Sirianni did not specify a timeline for Slay’s return, but sources told Adam Schefter that the cornerback is expected to be back by the end of the regular season.
When asked who would replace Slay in the lineup, Sirianni declined to provide a definitive answer, stating: “We’ve got the right guys in place.” Among the top candidates are rookie Kelee Ringo and second-year player Josh Jobe.
Slay has been the standout player in an otherwise struggling secondary, recording two interceptions—one of which he returned for a touchdown—and 14 pass breakups.
The Eagles rank 28th in pass defense and have allowed 29 passing touchdowns, the second most in the NFL.
They may soon receive reinforcements as Philadelphia is expected to open the practice window next week for cornerback Avonte Maddox.
Maddox is anticipated to play again this season after being placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral in September.
On the offensive side, quarterback Jalen Hurts missed practice Saturday due to an illness. Although he is expected to travel with the team and play on Monday, the Eagles are being cautious to prevent further sickness among the players.
