Howard University has decided to sever its connections with Sean “Diddy” Combs by revoking an honorary degree awarded to him and terminating a scholarship program named after him. This decision comes after the emergence of a 2016 video showing him appearing to attack the R&B singer Cassie.
According to a statement from the university’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Combs’ conduct in the recently released video goes against Howard University’s fundamental values. As a result, the board unanimously agreed to accept the return of the honorary degree given to Combs in 2014. This action nullifies all privileges associated with the degree.
Furthermore, the board has instructed university administrators to end all financial arrangements with Combs. This includes returning a $1 million donation, discontinuing the scholarship program established in his name, and canceling a commitment made by the Sean Combs Foundation for 2023.
The Associated Press reached out to a spokesperson for Combs for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
In a recent video statement shared on social media, Combs admitted to assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway in 2016 after CNN published footage of the incident. He expressed deep remorse for his actions, acknowledging that they were unacceptable and that he takes full responsibility for them.
