Jordin Sparks, known for rising to fame on “American Idol,” will sing the national anthem before the 108th Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend.
This isn’t her first time performing at the iconic race; Sparks also sang the anthem at the event in 2015.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway president J. Douglas Boles expressed confidence in Sparks, stating, “We believe Jordin’s voice and performance will deliver a moving rendition of the national anthem as part of the pre-race ceremonies for the Indy 500.”
The national anthem is a moment to honor the country and sets the stage for the thrilling U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds flyover, leading up to the exciting start of the race.
In addition to her success on “American Idol,” Sparks has earned accolades, including an American Music Award and People’s Choice Award. She has also been nominated for a Billboard Award, Dove Award, two MTV Awards, and two Grammys.
Beyond music, Sparks made her Broadway debut in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” and starred in the lead role in the film “Sparkle.”
The Indianapolis 500 has a tradition of featuring renowned artists for the anthem, including Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and country star Martina McBride. Last year, Jewel performed the anthem at the race.
