Vice President Kamala Harris marked the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade by accusing Donald Trump of deliberately rolling back women’s freedoms and causing a national healthcare crisis.
Harris, drawing on her experience as a California prosecutor, asserted that Trump’s three Supreme Court appointments were meant to overturn Roe. She criticized Trump for not expressing regret or denying his actions.
While President Joe Biden is preparing for this week’s presidential debate at Camp David, Harris is leading events commemorating the high court’s decision.
Democrats view this anniversary as crucial for energizing their campaign. Harris traveled to Arizona for another event on reproductive rights the same day.
In recent days, the campaign has featured Jill Biden and women who were motivated to join the 2024 effort after facing or nearly facing severe consequences due to restrictive abortion laws. These laws were sometimes applied even when they did not intend to end their pregnancies.
With federal protections overturned, states now have varying laws on abortion, affecting around 25 million women who live in states with restrictions. This has led to increasingly serious consequences and changes in where and how doctors practice medicine.
