Famous boxer Ryan Garcia is planning to make a big move into mixed martial arts (MMA), hoping to be one of the top boxers to switch to the octagon.
While well-known MMA fighters like Conor McGregor and Francis Ngannou have tried boxing, not many top boxers have tried MMA, until now.
Garcia, who is well-known in boxing, is getting ready for a big fight against Devin Haney on April 20, hoping to give Haney his first loss. But besides this fight, Garcia wants to fight UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley in MMA.
In a recent talk with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Garcia sounded sure of himself, saying, “I’ll beat his ass in MMA guaranteed.”
He talked about his natural skill in wrestling and talked about his strength and great shape, showing he’s ready for the change.
Although O’Malley had thought about fighting Garcia in boxing before, Garcia didn’t think it was enough and insisted on MMA.
Garcia said that with the right training from MMA stars like Nate Diaz and Alex Pereira, he would be unstoppable in the octagon, focusing on fighting O’Malley in the UFC.
He’s already talking to UFC people, even reaching out to Dana White directly, waiting for a clear answer. He’s excited to prove himself in MMA, saying, “I’m down to do it after Devin Haney. All I know is, Dana, hit me back, I’m trying to beat Sean O’Malley’s ass.”
