According to the indispensable and invaluable Cagematch, Spike Dudley hasn’t wrestled a match since December 2015.
What would bring him back to the ring almost eight years later?
While we’d need to hear it directly from him to know for sure, it’s likely that one of his reasons for teaming with Teddy Goodz and Little Mean Kathleen against Aaron Rourke, LSG, and Ava Everett at LIVE Pro Wrestling’s Whaling City Rumble show in New Bedford, Massachusetts is the show’s association with CoJo’s Toy World’s Holiday Toy Drive.
CoJo’s is co-owned by Spike’s trainee Goodz, and Spike participated in a meet-and-greet for their inaugural Toy Drive last year.
This year, the seven-time WWE Hardcore Champion stepped into the ring and reminded everyone that he’s still a tough S.O.B.
In addition to his time in WWF/E, Spike (whose real name is Matt Hyson) also wrestled in ECW and TNA.
Often paired with his “brothers” Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley, he also found singles success in those promotions and on the indie circuit before retiring as a full-time performer.
This appearance probably doesn’t signal a full-time return. Besides his ties to Goodz and the charity aspect, Dudley lives in New England and likely didn’t have to travel far for this show. But it seems he enjoyed himself, and who would complain about seeing more Spike appearances on the indies?
