Two individuals were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after their small aircraft crashed near Interstate 25 in Colorado on Sunday, according to officials.
The crash occurred in a field close to I-25 near Larkspur, approximately 40 miles south of Denver. Reports suggest the plane struck a highway sign, causing it to veer off course towards the east, stated the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Both occupants managed to exit the aircraft before sheriff’s deputies arrived, noted Deputy Cocha Heyden, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office. They were assisted through waist-deep water in a nearby creek.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced it will lead an investigation into the incident involving the twin-engine Tecnam P2006T, alongside the National Transportation Safety Board.
This incident follows a similar one just over a week ago, when four people were hospitalized after a small plane crashed into the front yard of a suburban Denver home while attempting to land on a street. Tragically, one person later passed away.
